It’s Time for a Change
Recently, a friend and Pastor that I meet with weekly was reflecting on the Presidential election. He was identifying with all the negative media and all the acquisitions that these candidates were being targeted with. Whether it was lies, corruption, manipulation, discrimination, or sexual faults, exc. And whether these stories were true or false or exaggerated, the pastor was reflecting inward and realized that he could identify with these sins and judgments in his own life.
“But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:28
As he was sharing, I wondered if through these candidates the Lord was revealing with all of us just exactly where our country is at. That all this obsession with these personal attacks and our obsession of watching it shows how far we’ve come from being ‘one nation under God.’ That our hearts and our personal pleasures have turned us away from a God that is looking for our attention.
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Jeremiah 17:9
The judgments toward these candidates might just be a mere image of our brokenness and personal conviction.
“When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." John 8:7
As I meditated on the thoughts of this Pastor I couldn’t help but to look at myself and realize it was so much easier to point the finger at someone else than to be introspective of my own heart. I started to think of all the things I need to do to improve my walk with the Lord instead of looking around and finding fault in others.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
