Run the Race to Win
I don’t know about you, but I want to run the race to win! The question is what track do I step on?
In the bible, Jesus tells us “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. Matthew 16:24 “. There are so many alternatives to doing that that scream out to us every day-
Step on this track, and you’ll obtain power.
Or, step on this track if you want to be recognized and famous.
Or step on THIS track to fulfill all your earthly lusts.
Or, get on this track because it will make you ‘feel’ good.
Unfortunately many of the tracks that we choose to step on lead to destruction, unhappiness, boredom, or a feeling of a void. There are so many tracks to choose from that sometimes we forget what Jesus told us to do- “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” Matthew 6:33. As we get on the right track we may ask ourselves, can I endure this till the end?
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1
While on the track there will be many others encouraging you to continue. And the bible gives us so many promises of the reward for finishing the race (John 14:2). But also, there will be so many others on other tracks yelling and screaming to step on theirs which will be tempting, but will ultimately lead back to your void. The group that will yell the most are the spectators who never make up their mind to get on any track, and will certainly try to make sure that you don’t either!
So at this time you may be making a decision and you may have been encouraged on which race to enter. The only race that makes sense to me is one that has an eternal perspective. (What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Mark 8:36)
So no matter how attractive all the other races seem, the question I ask myself is this- do I want to perish with all the things that I gained on that track? I decided to run with Jesus and be assured at the end, when I finish I will truly win!
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."
1 Corinthians 9:24-26
God bless you!
