Prayer is simply talking with God and listening.
"Jesus made it clear that prayer is not supposed to be something you do to display your spirituality. When you do that, prayer becomes about you. That is exactly what prayer is not. That’s not to say you should never pray in public. It should just never be something you do to look holy. No one is holy except Jesus. When you talk with God in private, however, your Heavenly Father will reward you.
Jesus also taught in Matthew 6:7 not to “keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.” Some people think they will get Gods attention if they ask over and over, if they just bug Him enough. Jesus was kind enough to tell us we cannot manipulate God to do anything just because we ask Him a thousand times. God already knows our need before we ask Him (Matthew 6:8)."

Make sure getting alone with God is a priority that happens daily. If we want to learn Gods voice we need to withdraw from distractions, to do lists, and things that grab our attention away from Him. Wherever you can spend alone with time with Him, whether in the morning, at night, in the car, lunch breaks, etc.… He is happy that you are choosing to spend time with Him!
